The Ban Thai Guest house is a Lonely Planet “Our Pick.” It’s located on the west end of the central town, just off the main drag. This puts it in reasonable walking distance of downtown Mae Sot.

Ban Thai is a compound, consisting of a main building that contains rooms, several stand-alone bungalows, an office building, and a maintenance building. We splurged and snagged the big bungalow, which was around 600 square feet and contained a bedroom, bathroom with huge shower, kitchen space with fridge (but no stove or microwave), sitting room, office, and porch. Cost per night was 800 baht.

It’s a nice, quiet area that insulates you from the hustle and bustle of Mae Sot.

The staff is nice. There’s covered, outside lounging space. Bikes can be rented (50 baht a day), as can motorbikes (150 a 180 baht a day).

We would stay here again.
