There are two main beers in Thailand – Singha and Chang.

Ok…there’s Leo and Heineken available, but they aren’t as pervasive.

So, back to the main two…

Both beers have more commonalities than differences.  They are both lager in appearance, meaning they are clear in color. They are both light bodied. They taste almost…almost…the same.

However, there is a slight difference in taste that you can discern if you close your eyes and concentrate really, really hard.  And in this regard, Singha is the winner. Jen prefers Singha.

Apparently, others agree, as Singha tends to be a slight bit more expensive than Chang.

Another area of difference is alcohol content. Singha runs at 5%, while Chang runs at 6.4%.

So, if you don’t care about the slight taste difference, and want a bigger buzz for your buck, then Chang is your best option.

Neither comes close to a half-decent microbrew, so makers of good beer have nothing to fear from Thailand.

Both of these rate a, “Drink if There’s Nothing Better in the Fridge” – which is pretty much the daily situation in Thailand.
