This is a sometimes-found alternative to the much-more-common BeerLaos.

Like BeerLaos – and Chang and Singha in Thailand – it’s a relatively light-bodied and light-colored beer. Something like a Budweiser or Miller in the States.

We found Tiger Beer to be a bit better than BeerLaos. It doesn’t have the slightly unpleasant aftertaste, and it doesn’t seem to be the headache-beer that BeerLaos can be.

It still sucks by real beer standards. It just doesn’t suck as much as BeerLao.

Because this is Laos, with no better options, Tiger Beer gets a “Drink It if There’s Nothing Better in the Fridge.”. If this were the States, it would get poured down the sink.

Given the large Western tourist population in Luang Prabang, a real micro-brewery might have a shot there. It certainly would have no true beer competitor.

I dream of a decent beer, like a draft Anchor Steam, or a craft-brewed IPA at a local micro-brewery.
