The food is very good here. They also make food that is Thai-hot when you say spicy, which is not the norm we have experienced in Laos (where Laotian spicy translates as Thai mild).

This place had the best-tasting papaya salad we have had in Laos after three weeks of traveling through the country. The soups were super. In terms of overall food quality, it’s probably the best place at which we we have eaten in all of Laos.

The lady who runs this joint speaks decent English, which can be a help. She was noticeably warmer on our second visit than she was on our first, so maybe it pays to be a repeat customer.

Like most everything in the touristy part of central Vientaine, Ban Villaylac is pricy – our bill was in the 100,000 kip range each visit. Nonetheless, the food quality is sufficiently above-the-pack to make it worth a visit.
