We purchased two of these packs before we headed overseas. We needed something that could hold a lot of gear when we needed a daypack, yet was light and small enough to be stuffed into our main packs when not needed. This seemed to fit the bill.

Over the last three months, we have used the packs to carry camera gear and the computer through airports, to carry our standard stuff around villages and on hikes, and to haul camera gear on motorbikes to archaeological sites. The packs are used daily.

They carry a decent load. Our standard walk-around gear is Jen’s camera with an attached lens, an additional lens in a case, our rain parkas, a guidebook, a phrasebook, a note pad, a pen, iPhone, sun screen, insect repellent, hats, passports, wallet, and an occasional fleece shirt. All of this fits into a single pack.

Once loaded into the integral stuff sack, these packs are small. I use them to cushion sensitive camera gear in the main pack.

At first, I was concerned that stitching would start to give at the stress points, mainly at the top of the shoulder straps. So far, that has not been a problem.

The North Face Flyweight Rucksack is a winner.
