Foodies: Jen and Dan

Ordered:
Appetizers: Taro Fritters and Hummus with bread

Entrees: Dan ordered an Ahi dish and I ordered a pasta dish sans whatever meat and cheese it was supposed to come with.

Overall experience:

I have to tell you right off the bat that I was VERY disappointed with this place!  Dan and I had researched Postcards Cafe before deciding to eat there.  The menu online had 6 items listed including a dessert that was or could be made vegan.  When we arrived at Postcards it was an entirely different story!  It went from 6 things I could eat down to 4 and no dessert!  And of those 4 items 3 of them were appetizers: a salad, a thing called Taro Fritters, and Hummus with bread.  They didn’t really even have a vegan entree to speak of!  What they did have in the way of a vegan entree was a pasta dish that you could order sans the meat and cheese (woohoo!  thanks!  way to go!).

The appetizers… The Taro Fritters were interesting, the taste was good but the texture was strange. We never got the hummus we ordered, so I can’t comment on that dish.

The entrees…Food quality was mediocre at best.  Now, Dan usually orders vegan, but because of the lack of options he ordered Ahi.  I usually wouldn’t want to comment on a non-vegan food item on my blog, but since this place sucked so bad I wanted you to know that it wasn’t limited to vegan style food…. Back to it… Dan says his Ahi was really overcooked; nothing special at all.  My pasta dish was unremarkable.  Like blah, blah, BLAH!

Other observations…

So you can see right away that this place is striving to be upscale, but how can it be?  It’s in an old converted house, and when you convert an old house into a restaurant you get what?  A homey atmosphere, right?  The wait staff was not trained in proper dish handling etiquette.  They were continually reaching in front of our faces to frantically grab at plates and water glasses.  Which wouldn’t really bother me if the place wasn’t trying so hard to be upscale.  I mean, how hard is it to have a staff meeting to go over these basic things?

Parking was a joke!  They have maybe three parking spots in front of the restaurant and of course those where taken.  We had to park down the street and cross Kuhio Hwy with no sidewalks or street lights!  Super!

They only had four beers on the menu… no make that three because one of them was Michelob!  But they did have an extensive wine list.  Great!  What are you going to do with all that wine and no good food to pair it with?

Being what it was, it was overpriced.  We were charged $90 for $5 lunch plates.

Sorry Postcards Cafe,  but you really rubbed me the wrong way by teasing me with the promise of food on your website and not delivering.  UPDATE your webpage!  Our waitress told us that the menu on the website had not been updated for years!  Get with it!  Stop telling people you are vegan friendly when clearly you are NOT!
