We stumbled on this place by accident, after a failed search for another restaurant. We were on foot, hungry, and tired of searching. That’s when we walked into Restaurant Boteco.

Restaurant Boteco serves Mediterranean and South American food. It is located on Kilmore Street, near the intersection with Barbadoes Street. It’s a bit of a walk to get there from the Hagley Park area of Christchurch, which is too bad, as this restaurant is one of the two best vegetarian-friendly establishments we found in Christchurch. Being closer to Hagley park would likely bring more customers.

We had falafel plates, which were served with pita bread, a salad, and French fries. Fries are not a normal side for falafel, but they worked.

The restaurant had a few other dishes suitable for vegetarians. For meat-eaters, Boteco had several options. A family sitting nearby was served a meat-based dinner on a sizzling plate; it looked and smelled very good.

Boteco’s quality, quantity, and pricing were good. Its staff was small, friendly, and attentive. At the time of our visit, the restaurant was just four months old, and the staff was obviously going the extra mile to ensure we were happy.

We would go here again.
