We have used the Marmot Trestles 40-Degree Rectangular Sleeping Bags for two excursions, now — Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica; and the Na Pali Coast in Kauai, Hawaii.

I originally purchased these bags because we needed something for warm weather, the price was good (under $100), and I had previously owned a Marmot mummy bag that I liked quite a lot.

For out-of-your-car or backyard camping, this bag is a good deal.  For those situations, weight and packed size don’t matter so much; and the bag does what it is advertised to do.  As to durability, at least from our two trips the bags are no worse for wear.

As a backpacking bag, however, the bags fall short.  At 2-1/4 pounds and a stuff-sacked size of around 8.5″ X 18″, they are just too heavy and hog too much space, particularly when compared to other options on the market.

So, I am going to buy a couple of lighter and smaller-when-stuffed bags for backpacking, and put the Marmot Trestles on the shelf for starry nights in the backyard.
