We don’t know what the name of this joint is. It’s one of a handful of food places located outside the southern gate (not the main, eastern gate) of the central part of the park at Old Sukhothai. Park your bicycle or moped or whatever in the dirt lot, ignore the ladies fighting for your attention at the closest two venues, walk down the path between the two rows of eateries, and head into the second one on your left.

We initially selected this place because of the two rules of restaurant selection: 1) eat where the locals eat, and 2) eat where the monks eat. This joint met both conditions. The other joints met neither.

We had a mild but tangy papaya salad, and a tangy twist on raman noodles with green beans, along with rice; washed down with some Singha beer. All told, just 170 baht for the best meal we had in Sukhothai – New or Old.

We went back the next day.
