Little Eden Guesthouse is one of several small hotels/inns that line the area between the roadway and the river in Soppong. All of them seem to cater to English-speaking tourists, even though Soppong itself has nothing remarkable to recommend it as a tourist destination. But it is located in an area riddled with caves, and that is apparently the draw.

Little Eden Guesthouse consists of a roadside coffee stand; a restaurant; a pool; and a collection of bungalows, houses, and rooms packed into something less than a half-acre lot. But it kinda works, and doesn’t feel as cramped as that might sound.

When we arrived, Jen looked at the various housing options this place offers, and reported the bungalows as dark and dreary A-frame affairs. We didn’t stay in one of these.

What we stayed in was a room overlooking the river that was about the size of a small apartment. It had a nice, finished interior; air conditioning; refrigerator; Western-style bathroom; and a wooden deck hanging out a bit over the river some thirty feet below.

This was the off-season. We were the only guests, and there was construction ongoing to upgrade things before the next tourist season. Fortunately, we could not see or hear the work from our room.

The owner does some of the cooking for the restaurant. She was accommodating to vegan and vegetarian requests, and the one dinner she made us was decent. The breakfasts are a handful of Western-style options, with one Thai option thrown into the mix.  The coffee is actual coffee (not dry Nescafe).

More on the owner…She’s a very nice lady who speaks English well. She adjusted pricing to account for construction, and rented us a motorbike for the day. At the time of this writing, she had a Croatian guy staying with her who spoke English and helped run things.

We would stay here again; although we’d also take a look at the Soppong River Inn to see if the grass is truly greener on the other side.
