We drove from Kaanapali along the northwest coast of Maui today.  This is the route from Kaanapali north and then east on Highways 30 and 340; through the towns of Kapalua, Honokahua, and Kahakuloa; eventually reaching Kahului.

The views are pretty good.

We saw a fair number of humpback whale pods from the various scenic pullouts.

We drove the whole distance, venturing into the rental car restriction area.  Much of this latter area was one lane and cliff edged, but it was worth the look.

From Kahului, we went south to Wailuku and the Iao Valley State Park.  This is way touristy, but I thought I’d cause Jen to suffer through a tourist staple.  And who doesn’t like a giant phallus?

From there, off to our lodging the next two nights at Huelo Point Lookout on The Road to Hana.
